Margaret's parents were James Walls and Jane Rendall who were married on the 13th December 1877 in Westray. James was a journeyman and stonemason.

Margaret was born on 29th June 1883 at Savedale, Cross Parish, Sanday. Margaret had two sisters and the family appears in the 1891 census as living at 32 Kirk Street, Peterhead.

Margaret married William Prophet in Wynberg, Cape of Good Hope Colony 30th June 1903. At that time, she and William were living in Claremont in the southern suburbs of Cape Town.

Margaret married William Fodd Prophet in 1902 in Cape Town, South Africa. After living in the Cape for ten years they moved from Stutterheim to Bloemfontein. Above is a photograph of her as Mayoress of Bloemfontein in 1938.

Simon standing beside the grave of Margaret and her husband William Fodd. Referring to Margaret, the epitaph on the granite below the cross reads "In memory of one we loved." Grave plot 6476650 situated in Block U, Presbyterian Church, Bloemfontein.

As a child, Simon remembers every Sunday driving out to the cemetery with his mother to put fresh flowers on the grave.
